Exploring Taipei Solo: A 6D5N DIY Travel Guide to Night Markets, Culture & Scenic Views
Taipei isn’t just a bustling capital - it's a city that surprises you at every turn. From neon-lit night markets overflowing with flavors to quiet temples hidden in narrow alleys, Taipei weaves together modern energy and timeless traditions.
As a second-time solo traveler in Taiwan, I embarked on a 6-day, 5-night journey to experience the city’s contrasts: the soaring skyline of Taipei 101, the lantern-lit charm of Jiufen, the calm embrace of hidden gardens, and, of course, the irresistible street food that defines Taiwanese culture.
Taipei has always been one of those cities that blend modernity with nature and culture so effortlessly. Before you go, don't forget to fill out your Taiwan Arrival Form Card at least 3 days before your flight: https://niaspeedy.immigration.gov.tw/webacard/formAction

Travel Tips for Taipei Solo Travelers
1. Weather & What to Expect:
Taipei’s weather can shift quickly - sunny mornings, misty afternoons, and occasional rain showers. Always bring a light jacket or foldable umbrella, especially if you’re exploring the mountain areas like Maoking or Jiufen.
2. EasyCard is a Must:
Get yourself an EasyCard right after landing. It's usable to MRT, buses, convenience store, and even some cafés. You can buy or reload it at MRT stations or 7-Eleven stores.
3. MRT is Your Best Friend:
Taipei’s MRT is efficient, clean and easy to navigate. English signs everywhere! Download the Taipei Metro App or Citymapper App for guide.
4. Try Local Eats Fearlessly:
Don't leave without trying xiao long bao, Taiwanese fried chicken, bubble milk tea, scallion pancakes, and pepper buns at Raohe Night Market.
5. Stay Connected:
Rent a Wi-Fi pocket or buy a local SIM card at the airport. You can also conveniently purchase one through Klook before your trip. I personally used an eSIM, which was super convenient since I didn't have to remove my PH SIM card. Taiwan offers strong 4G/5G coverage almost everywhere.
6. Bring Cash:
Many small shops, food stalls, and local markets prefer cash. ATMs are widely available in convenience stores like 7-Eleven and FamilyMart.
7. Be Polite & Observant:
Taiwanese people are respectful and orderly.
✨ Taipei was a beautiful mix of calm and chaos, a city that made me slow down, look closer, and appreciate life’s little moments. Solo travel here wasn't just about places, but about peace, growth and gratitude.
